Doug Howie, Mu 1983

Congratulations to Doug Howie, Mu 1983, for receiving the Mu Alumni Association President’s special Alumni Engagement Award at the Princeton Order Regional 200th Anniversary Gala at the W-Hoboken on October 26, 2024. This award recognizes a member of the Mu Alumni Association, who above the call of duty, actively engages Alumni and The Friends of Chi Phi with a shared affinity to support the Undergraduate Brothers providing programmatic benefits and programs in concert with the Educational Trust. The Mu Chapter Alpha Aidan ‘Mac’ McNamara, Mu 2025, presented Doug with a gift bag which included this year’s recruitment shirt and a bottle of Glenlivet (Est. 1824) Founder’s Reserve Scotch.

Mu Alumni Association President Rocco Henry Carnevale, Mu 1980, applauded Doug who spearheaded Mu’s record contribution to the 2023 Founders Day Campaign for educational and development scholarship opportunities for the National Fraternity. Brother Howie is also actively involved with many local gatherings rallying the troops for events at the Chapter and around the Northeast Region. He has formed a golf league of sorts integrated them with ‘long weekend’ Alumni reunions.

Brother Carnevale stated that if recruitment is the lifeblood of the organization, personal engagement is the glue that binds the Brotherhood, past and present, ensuring a bright future for any organization. “I have known Doug since I was a senior at the Stevens Institute of Technology who recruited him as a freshman hailing from NYC. Doug is a true and lawful Chi Phi through and through; he is a Brother with a great heart and an indomitable spirit,” shares Brother Carnevale. Doug’s supportive partner Stella was part of the presentation along with the Educational Trust’s Executive Director Laura Landry who presented the ceremonial scarlet and blue beads as a symbol of eternal friendship.

This year’s Mu Alumni Ball/Gala, a continuous biannual tradition at the Mu Chapter for over forty years, was held this year in partnership with the Princeton Order Regional 200th Anniversary Celebration events in the NYC area.
