Hobart Order Celebration

Chicago, Illinois
November 22-24, 2024
Thank you for joining us on this special weekend as we celebrated the legendary Hobart Order of 1860.

Hobart Order - 1860-1867

Holy Order of Chi Phi
Many of the traditions we have today come from the Hobart Order. The officer names and colors are the same, and the Initiation ceremony and Vow we observe today closely resemble those established by the Hobart Order. The HobartOrder also bequeathed to the Fraternity the Chakett symbol and its secret meaning; the Grand Lecture; and the structure of our current Constitution.
The Hobart Order is symbolized by the Fasces, as referenced on the current Crest, and by Union, as referenced in their Initiation ceremony. The customized jeweled Badges of membership were unique and varied from Brother to Brother. However, each shared a basic design of the Greek letter Χ superimposed on a Φ, with sapphire or turquoise on one bar of the Χ and rubies or garnets on the other.
The chapters of the Hobart Order at the time of the union with the Princeton Order numbered as follows: Upsilon, Hobart-24; Psi, Kenyon-18; Sigma, Princeton-24; and Delta, Rutgers-6. In total there were 82 members.
